Fake land registries worth over Rs 400 crore made in Dehradun, suspect officials
Dehradun is currently grappling with a massive land registry scandal under thorough investigation by a specialized team. This elaborate fraud scheme involves the forgery of multiple land records and the creation of counterfeit property registries. Preliminary assessments indicate that these fabricated land registries pertain to properties collectively worth at least Rs 400 crore, a figure that could escalate beyond Rs 1,000 crore when factoring in the genuine land values as per the circle rate. The primary targets of this scam appear to be tea estates and ceiling lands. The scandal came to public attention following an unannounced visit by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to the registrar's office. Subsequently, a committee was established to scrutinize specific registry cases, which unveiled an array of irregularities, including discrepancies in ink usage, improper page placements, and inconsistencies in stamping on various documents.
