Einstein as an AI Copilot
San Francisco-headquartered enterprise software provider Salesforce on Tuesday rolled out a gen AI tool across its suite of apps. The new AI tool, an assistant called Einstein Copilot, will be available across apps like Slack and Tableau and can be customized as per clients’ needs. Einstein Copilot can not only summarise video calls and deliver personalized answers but also generate emails for marketing campaigns, among a host of other functionalities.
RazorPay × BillMe Acquisition
Razorpay Software Pvt. Ltd., an Indian online payment gateway platform, has acquired Mumbai-based startup BillMe, known for its digital invoicing and customer engagement services. This marks Razorpay's eighth acquisition, with the last being Exetap in August 2022. BillMe, founded in 2018, serves over 4,000 businesses, including major players like McDonald's, Burger King, and Decathlon. The acquisition aims to bolster Razorpay's omnichannel payments ecosystem for businesses, offering quick and easy digital invoicing, eliminating paper bills, and enhancing customer engagement. The financial details of the transaction remain undisclosed. This move will help Razorpay expand its offline business and provide BillMe-powered digital invoices to its merchants, enabling them to engage customers more effectively.
10% extra GST on Diesel Vehicles
Nitin Gadkari initially proposed a 10% additional GST on diesel vehicles as a "pollution tax" to reduce their numbers in India at the SIAM Annual Convention. He urged the industry to cut diesel vehicle production to avoid this tax. However, he later clarified on X that there is currently no active government proposal for such a tax. He emphasized the need for the auto industry to transition to cleaner fuels to meet Net Zero commitments by 2070. This announcement raised concerns in the auto sector, as many commercial vehicles in India run on diesel. Currently, diesel cars are already subject to a 28% tax with additional engine capacity-based cess, totaling nearly 50%. Gadkari's statements caused a drop in auto share prices, impacting companies like M&M, Tata Motors, and Maruti Suzuki.
Storytelling from Pratilipi to Disney
Disney Star has partnered with Pratilipi, India's largest digital storytelling platform, for an innovative content deal. Under the agreement, Disney Star will adapt Pratilipi's vast collection of stories and content into multiple fiction television shows to be aired on Disney Star's TV and digital streaming platforms in various languages. This marks a pioneering move as the first time a TV series will be based on an online self-publishing and audiobook platform. Pratilipi offers a wide array of content formats, including short stories, series, audiobooks, graphic novels, and comics, with over 10 million stories available and a subscriber base of over 15 million. This partnership aims to empower writers and showcase authentic storytelling from emerging talents while also enabling region-specific content development.
₹100 Crores payment to KAL Airways
SpiceJet has successfully completed a ₹100 crore payment to former promoter Kalanithi Maran's KAL Airways as ordered by the Delhi High Court in compliance with arbitral awards. Despite initially struggling to meet the court's September 10 deadline due to bank holidays, SpiceJet ultimately fulfilled its financial obligation, part of a total ₹397 crore owed to Maran. Earlier, a cheque payment of ₹37.5 crore was handed over in court, but Maran's counsel requested a bank transfer, which SpiceJet promptly executed. However, SpiceJet faces additional challenges, with its Chairman and Managing Director, Ajay Singh, under Supreme Court scrutiny for non-compliance with an order related to payments to Credit Suisse AG, with a crucial hearing set for September 22.
